U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)

by Hamid R. Kashani, Attorney at Law
Nov 07, 2018

The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is a law enforcement agency under the jurisdiction of the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS).  ICE is charged with the enforcement of immigration laws.

ICE was created by the Homeland Security Act of 2002, which combined a number of law enforcement agencies into one entity. While ICE itself is about 15 years old, the functions that ICE performs are not new. Those functions, such as apprehension of undocumented immigrants and enforcement of immigration laws, were previously performed by other agencies which are now incorporated into ICE.
